24 HOURS: BANOS
In a valley south of Quito (about a 3 hour drive) you'll find the lovely town of Banos. Very touristic and for a good reason. There are so many things to do that 24 hours may not be enough. If time is of the essence and you only have 24 hours follow the itinerary below and you'll be sure to have a jam packed day.
A full day ahead means you need a great breakfast to start out the day. Check out Honey Coffee and Tea. A great place to unwind, and use some free Wifi.
10:00am-1:00pm Bus/Adventure Tour
You have two options:
1. Take a $20 Bus Tour
Any tour shop will recommend you one, and there are plenty around (basically every 2 stores is a tour company). The entire tour is $20. The bus tour will take you up the mountains, Zip Lining ($10 extra), Jesus's face, Pailon del Diablo (Devil's Caldron), and down the Banos stairs. Note: the bus is not enclosed, and is tricked out in stream lights, and dance music.
2. Take a Cab Tour
You can find them anywhere and it shouldn't be more than $80. The cab will take you to the major sites; Pailon del Diablo, Banos stairs, and La Casa AKA the famous swing.
***If you really want to go zip lining separately, I highly suggest Canopy Triple Zip Line. Great experience and they allow you to pick the position you fly down...i.e. Superman, upside down, connected to someone, and more.
1:00pm-2:00pm Lunch at Killu Wasi
A great restaurant to have a traditional meal at an affordable rate. Free Wifi too!
2:00pm-6:00pm Walk around the Center
Did you know that Banos is famous for their taffy? Yes, I am talking about the gummy candy that comes in a variety of flavors. You'll see shop owners stretching the taffy over and over again to insure its freshness will last.
HOTEL: Flores de Oriente Hotel
About $30 a night, and includes a full breakfast the next morning. Wifi was pretty good too.
